Bất chấp lệnh ngừng bắn của quân đội Myanmar, Đặc phái viên của Liên Hợp Quốc về Myanmar, bà Christine Schraner Burgener cảnh báo trong một phiên họp của Hội đồng Bảo an Liên Hợp Quốc hôm 31/3 rằng “một cuộc tắm máu sắp xảy ra”.

Bà Burgener nói trong một phiên họp kín của hội đồng gồm 15 thành viên: “Tôi kêu gọi Hội đồng xem xét tất cả công cụ hiện có / để thực hiện hành động tập thể, làm những gì đúng đắn, những gì người dân Myanmar xứng đáng được nhận và ngăn chặn một thảm họa đa chiều”.

Nước Anh đã yêu cầu tổ chức cuộc họp tại Liên Hợp Quốc ở New York để đối phó với tình trạng bạo lực ngày càng trầm trọng ở Myanmar. Đại sứ Anh tại Liên Hợp Quốc, bà Barbara Woodward cho biết / Hội đồng Bảo an “nên đóng vai trò của mình” trong một phản ứng quốc tế.
